April 2007 Mc Arthur River Mine Airport - Design and construct complete airfield lighting system,
This was truly a very exiting project to be involved with. Xstrata wanted to construct a 2500metre x30 metre runway capable of taking 737's in twelve weeks.
Airport Electrical played a cruitial role in this project and achieved commissioning on time.
This was a Design and Construct project and included.
Installation of a dual pit and duct system
Installation of interleaved MIRL runway and taxiway lighting
Installation of double sided PAPI and Aerodrome Beacon
Installation of airfield lighting control system and Constant Current Regulators and Pilot Activated Lighting (PAL)
Installation of Generator for Standby Power
Commissioning to MOS 139

The runway works begin with the runway being excavated.
Gravel is introduced and compacted
Pits and conduits were placed in position as the runway was built up as time did not permit this to happen after civil construction.
Working through the night spreading and compacting the runway
A rough indication of how much gravel has been built up.
As the runway approached its finished height we cored and pour the edge light foundations.
The Inset threshold light bases were installed at the required finished pavement height.
As the lights were installed there was the inevitable light that got run over.
